CMS was founded in April 1945 and energized its first lines in June 1948. Originally, CMS took its name from the three counties it was chartered to serve: Clark, Meade, and Seward. However, soon Comanche County was also added to its service area. This area covers approximately 3500 square miles with approximately 2500 miles of line. Today, the cooperative serves approximately 4800 meters. Among these services are: Dekalb Swine Breeder, Supreme Feeders, Anadarko Petroleum, Northern Natural Pipeline, and the entire city of Protection, Kansas.
As with any cooperative we are in business for our owners and that's why we are continually working to keep our rates competitive while still maintaining excellent service. To better help us in our effort to serve you we have two offices. The main office is located in Meade at 509 E. Carthage. This is located right across the street from the hospital in Meade on Highway 54. The other office is located in Coldwater at 207 N. Central. CMS currently employs 8 full time linemen in Meade to cover the western half of our service area as well as 4 linemen in our Coldwater office to serve the eastern half of our territory. In the main office here in Meade we employ 12 office personnel to answer any of your questions. If you would like you can visit our employee page to see a list of our employees.
